What is a Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty)?
We turn to the tissues themselves and focus on three main areas. Firstly, what is the skin like? Is there too much? Has it lost its elasticity? Are there too many stretch marks? If the skin is in good shape then we may not have to remove any and perhaps liposuction alone will suffice. If not then some skin removal will be required.
Secondly, we evaluate the amount and distribution of the fat. Upper abdomen, lower abdomen and flanks all contribute. Again, how do we best address these areas? Treatment of the flanks and upper abdomen may be more amenable to liposuction but the lower abdomen is going to be more dependent on the quality of the overlying skin. Finally, we examine the muscles, the abs. If they are separated due to pregnancy or surgery they cannot be exercised back to the midline. They will have to be repaired.
The Tummy Tuck Consultation
To determine the most appropriate procedure or combination of procedures (including Coolsculpting®) requires a thorough evaluation starting with goals and expectations. Where do you want to end up and how do we get there? Secondly, we perform an examination focusing on the skin quality, fatty distribution and muscle tone. A review of your medical history and any medications is then carried out. A plan specific for you is then developed including surgery specifics, costs, recovery, etc.
